I always love trying to capture expressions!! Question for you, when you do your class drawings, do you aim more for likeness or expression or do you get enough time to capture them both?? just curious...I guess it would depend how limited the time is, hey?

good question. in our class we're allowed to focus on whatever part of the figure interests us the most. in this pose i thought his face was the most interesting (durr). our instructor places the most stress on getting the shapes of the shadows, negative spaces, and forms correct so that's leaning more towards getting the likeness, BUT i always start out with a loose expressive gesture (you can still see some of those marks around his chin), which i feel is where you're most likely to capture the expression of the face or the lyricism of the pose. hope that helps!

Yes!! Definitely!! Under the chin towards the neck area is one of the harder parts to get it to look right too!! THanks for the advice!! :aww:

hehe. my fav part is his chin.. ear looks a bit funny, but everything else is perfect - amazing for the time span!

haha yeah the ear is kinda messed up, but thanks. so how's the school search going? make any progress in deciding on a career yet?
